Awesome learners

Awesome learners are able to be focused, work independently, and use 'tools' to support their learning in the classroom.  Manaaki, Lakaia, and Elijah are Awesome Learners - what great role  models for Room 12 you are!  Ka pai koutou!

Literacy Legends

I interupted these two legends as they wrote as many words that they could remember outside Room 12 today - well done Samuel and Kotuku! What a looooooong line of words! Ka nui te pai tō mahi!

Frogs Frogs Frogs

We continue to learn abut frogs in Room 12. One of the questions we asked was 'what colours are frogs?' After investigating we have found that frogs come in a wide variety of colours.
Here a just a few of the gorgeous frogs the students in Room 12 created.....

Writing in Room 12

Each week the students in Room 12 work to make a 'published' piece of writing. All the students are in the process of refining their editing skills. Usually these are place in a clearfile in the library - but I felt the following pieces of writing had been presented with such care - and so I am sharing them with you also! Well done Kotuku! Well done Cyrus! Beautifully presented work!

Term One Topic - Frogs

We have started our topic work for the second part of Term 1 in Room 12. We are learning about frogs. We know from our initial investigations that fully grown frogs are a wide variety of colours. Today we investigated the life cycle of frogs. We have been expanding our vocabulary and in the coming days we will be writing about frogs and their life cycle.

Gala Extravaganza!

Nga mihi. As you will all know by now, Otaki School is holding the bi-annual Gala on March 19th from 10am. Thank you to all whanau for your support of our school so far, and the items you have donated to the school. This week items are toys - students - ask your parents first!

Star Learner

In Room 12 we celebrate students that move forward in their learning, and those that are self motivated to do so. Samuel has really challenged himself in a number of areas this week, in writing, asking for extra Mathletics tasks, and most notably with his swimming. He has made an enormous amount of progress and can now float on his front and back. He is also known to help Whaea Ramila in the Maara Kai from time to time.
Well done Samuel! Ka nui the pai to mahi!

Stars of the week

We are lucky to have Jorja and Orlando in Room 12. They are always helpful, and don't need to be asked to do things - they find what needs to be done! Totally responsible. Thanks Jorja! Thanks Orlando! It's great to have you in Room 12!

Swimming Sports

March 5th saw the end of our swimming program for 2016. We had a senior school swimming sports at Haruatai Pool. It was a wonderful afternoon where all children participated in either width races or lengths. We are lucky to be able to offer this program at Otaki School. Swimming and water safety are so important for our children in a town where we all spend so much time at the beach and river. Thank you for your support.
